Regular price $22.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 248): Computation results in '-Infinity'%One hundred years later, Dayton was a modern city, its citizens open to innovative ideas, but still proud of their past.
The Main Street Bridge was one of the first concrete bridges in the United States. Cash registers, invented in Dayton, were in stores throughout the world. Yet time was taken to save the city's oldest structure, Newcom Tavern, and place it near where the first settlers of Dayton had come ashore. In 2014, Newcom Tavern underwent a $100,000 exterior renovation. As it was in 1896, so it is today; a symbol of how, from such humble beginnings, a great city can rise.

Traces of the Ann Arbor Railroad

Regular price $23.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 248): Computation results in '-Infinity'%Featuring 150 photographs, maps, and postcards, Traces of the Ann Arbor Railroad chronicles vital aspects of this unique railroad's history, with a primary focus on what has transpired from the 1960s to 2020.
The book's pages reflect on the years (1963-1973) the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton controlled the Ann Arbor Railroad, which served shippers along a 292-mile mainline almost entirely in Michigan (the AA operated several miles in northern Ohio); the demise of the AA's Lake Michigan car ferries; the new carriers that have sprung up to handle operations on the former Ann Arbor line in the wake of the company's bankruptcy in 1973; the disposition of the fleet of ten new GP35s that were delivered to the Ann Arbor "direct from the factory" in 1964; and the "new" Ann Arbor, a shortline operating between Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Toledo, Ohio, that was created out of the remains of the old "Annie." The final chapter highlights the 22-mile Betsie Valley Trail between Elberta-Frankfort and Thompsonville, a "rails-to-trails" corridor that opened in 2005 along an abandoned segment of the historic Ann Arbor Railroad.
Sheffield Through Time

Geology played an important part of the early settlement of Sheffield Township. The ancient beach ridges left behind by retreating glacial lakes were the first areas selected for homesteads because of their rich sandy soils. The land along the lakeshore was the least desired by the early settlers because of its high clay content. When Bavarians emigrant arrived in the mid-1800s, they discovered the shorelands were excellent for growing grapes and pastures for their livestock. These factors coupled with stream-power provided by the Black River and French Creek allowed Sheffield to flourish.

There is certainly something sad about these buildings sitting empty, but they also tell a tale of a time when this region of the country was far more prosperous, and Cleveland was one of the biggest cities in the country. Jacob believes that these stories deserve to be remembered, and these forgotten places should be seen before they're gone forever.

Regular price $23.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 248): Computation results in '-Infinity'%Abandoned Ohio: But That Day Did End is a story about two journeys: one through time and history in the state of Ohio, and the other through the psyche and stages of loss, grief, change, hope, and strength. Part documentary photography and part emotion, author Hillary Kleptach hopes this book will invoke some of the same thoughts, feelings, and vibrations she has experienced visiting these bleak locations. What happened to these places? What may have occurred here that no one knows about, aside from the people who stood to witness the events firsthand?
A building with so much history now stands as a final testament to its buried stories. By now, many of the people have been buried, too. What did they experience here? In some ways, these sites are like a mirror, reflecting back parts of one's heart--abandonment, transformation, destruction, and creation. Were these buildings, these vessels, the better version of themselves decades or centuries ago, when they were immaculate, unsoiled, and unscathed? Or have they become something more fascinating and worthy of attention after years of decay, weathering, and warping?
