Iowa's WHO Radio: The Voice of the Middle West, a new pictorial history book detailing the history of the legendary radio station—the voice of the middle west for nearly 90 years—will be published August 8.
The book, written by 30-year broadcast veteran and instructor Jeff Stein, includes 180 vintage images and captions that encourage readers to relive the shows, personalities and much more.
Stein, who was recently named a winner of the "Award of Merit for Individual Achievement" from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) for his work with the Archives of Iowa Broadcasting, said he grew up listening to WHO Radio. He wanted to help other Iowans recall fond memories of the station.
"I’ve always been a fan of history—and in particular, broadcasting history—so the chance to help listeners remember such an important part of their lives meant a lot to me," Stein said, adding that WHO Radio has always represented a "gold standard" in broadcasting.
Iowa's WHO Radio: The Voice of the Middle West will be available August 8, 2011 at area bookstores, independent retailers, online retailers, and through Arcadia Publishing at (888) 313-2665 or www.arcadiapublishing.com.
