More Info on This Book: Early Columbia County
Nestled among high ridges and amid river valleys and a fertile creek, Columbia County was formed in the early 1800s. Settled by Quakers, Scotch-Irish, German, Italian and eastern European immigrants, the county has continued to grow from its humble beginnings.
In a new book by Arcadia Publishing, members of the Columbia County Genealogical and Historical Society use over 200 vintage photographs to capture life the way it used to be.
Of this book, the authors note “if this book is successful, the Society may attempt a sequel covering the county from 1920 to 1970.
Highlights of Early Columbia County:
• Features never before seen vintage photographs from the Society’s collection, Society members, the general public and the Bloomsburg University archives
• Provides a glimpse of what life was like in Columbia County from 1870 and 1920
• Documents historic landmarks and buildings, events and celebrations, schools, houses of worship, industries and businesses, transportation and organizations
• Includes snapshots of businesses, organizations and modes of transportation that no longer exist in the county
The profits from the sale of the book will be used to benefit the work of the Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society.
