Images of Modern America

Postcard History

Postcards capture the flavor of life like neither a letter nor an e-mail can. Postcards were the primary means of communication in the early 20th century, and these mementos now preserve glimpses of the past through vintage images and intimate messages. Each title in the Postcard History series reveals the way of life of the average American generations ago, offering postcard enthusiasts and curious minds a nostalgic treat.

Images of Rail

The Images of Rail series celebrates the history of rail, trolley, streetcar, and subway transportation across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the people, places, and events that helped revolutionize transportation and commerce in 19th- and 20th-century America. Arcadia is proud to play a part in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all.
Images of Sports

In classical Rome, they were known as gladiators. In medieval Europe, they were dubbed knights. In contemporary times, they are called athletes. Each title in the Images of Sports series presents the fascinating history connected to athletes and their sport. From baseball to skiing, from football to hockey, this series remembers the faces, the teams, and the games that made us cheer.

Campus History

In every statue around the quad, in every building on campus, and in the name of a university itself lies a unique story about the individuals and groups who devoted their lives to the cause of higher education. Each title in the Campus History series contains unforgettable images of the generations of students, professors, and events that defined their respective university or college.
Images of Baseball

The Pawtucket Red Sox, the Toledo Mud Hens, the New Orleans Pelicans, these teams are every bit as much at the heart of our national pastime as are the New York Yankees or the Chicago Cubs. Arcadia's popular Images of Baseball series celebrates the history of baseball at the local level, from the earliest days of the game's 19th-century pioneers to the great players and teams of today's minor and major leagues. With over seventy IOB titles in print, fans from Fenway to the lowest rung of the farm system can discover the rich baseball heritage and lore behind their own hometown teams.
