Most notably, Schenectady had some of the finest amenities for street railway passengers in the nation, including a Beaux-Arts waiting room with 45-foot-tall ceilings, the longest trolley bridge in the world, and "Bullet" cars capable of traveling at 90 mph. These amenities helped make Schenectady the hub of a regional interurban trolley network, with hourly service or better to the region's other urban centers. With two major factory complexes employing a significant percentage of the city's population, Schenectady also had some of the most concentrated rush hour traffic found anywhere.
This book focuses on the chronology and location of the streetcar and interurban routes partially or wholly in Schenectady. It is hoped that this book can also provide the reader with a brief overview of the geographic development of the "City That Lights and Hauls the World." Much of this development took place in tandem with the growth of the street railway system.

Over the centuries, changing times have left many places behind, trapped in a limbo between past and future.
This book is a visual journey that explores everything from the haunting remains of grand old Gold Coast estates, to the remnants of a once-thriving military and industrial presence, to a dead mall awaiting a revival. The abandoned images in this book are frozen moments in time along a path that will either lead to outright demolition, to further decay and decrepitude, or to reuse and rebirth.

In his latest book, Troy Through Time, local historian Don Rittner looks at the city's rich heritage and with informative captions provides comparative then and now photographs showing the dramatic changes the city has gone through--especially during the past century. Due to the confluence of major waterways and the accompanying water power, industry favored Troy making it one of the wealthiest cities in the United State and the end of the nineteenth century. Troy, therefore, is noted for a wealth of Victorian architecture downtown and elaborate private homes in various neighborhoods. As industries have come and gone and as the street scenes have changed, Rittner takes the reader on a fascinating journey through time, showing how the impact of human activity to this riverside community.
