Hidden History of Burlington, Vermont
9781467152105
Regular price $21.99 Sale price $15.39 Save 30%Sitting on a hillside overlooking a spectacular lake and mountains, Burlington was destined to attract greatness, although much of its history has remained hidden.
It was the territory of the Alnôbak, who lived in concert with nature for thousands of years, and later the swashbuckling Green Mountain Boy Ethan Allen and his kin. Self-made tycoon Lawrence Barnes helped make the city the third-largest lumber shipping port in the country. The resilient Fanny Penniman created the first herbarium, and her daughter inspired a nineteenth-century hospital. Bootlegger Cyrus Dean was convicted of murder and publicly executed in the hill section. Irish, French Canadian, Jewish and Italian neighborhoods all combined to give a unique character to the city.
Join author and historian Glenn Fay as he reveals stories and images of Burlington's forgotten past.
Northern Vermont in the Revolutionary War
9781467150040
Regular price $21.99 Sale price $15.39 Save 30%Northern Vermont played a pivotal role in the American Revolution. While the larger campaigns such as the Taking of Fort Ticonderoga, the Quebec Invasion of 1775 and The Battle of Valcour Island have received appropriate historical attention, there were other vital actions in the area as well.
Benedict Arnold and Benjamin Franklin spent significant time in the Champlain Valley. George Washington kept a keen eye on events in the region as raiding parties descended upon numerous Vermont communities. The isolated waters of Missisquoi Bay were as vital as any waterway in America, and the Lake Champlain islands were some of the most strategic territory in the thirteen colonies.
Author and local historian Jason Barney exposes the details and explores how small towns were impacted by invading British armies from Quebec.

Brattleboro Remembers
9780738508726
Regular price $24.99 Sale price $17.49 Save 30%Brattleboro Remembers emerged as a result of writing workshops sponsored by the Brattleboro Historical Society and made possible by a grant from the Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont. The workshops, facilitated by poet and writing partner Verandah Porche, took place on winter Sunday afternoons. The walls of the room in which the group met were covered with copies of historical photographs. The workshop participants, most of whom still live in Brattleboro, selected photographs that brought back strong recollections. After studying an image, they wrote autobiographical pieces based on what came to mind. For those shy about putting pen to paper, volunteer scribes were on hand to listen to the stories and help the participants get their reminiscences down on paper.

Regular price $21.99 Sale price $15.39 Save 30%Champlain. Author Inge Schaefer, well known locally as the founder of the Colchester Chronicle, combines interviews, historical documents, and personal research in this series of articles on
Colchester's past. Schaefer traces the stories of the town's oldest families, like the Munsons and the Porters, from summer evenings dancing at Bayside Pavilion to the keeping of the Colchester
Reef Lighthouse. With a fresh perspective on twice-told tales of school days at Colchester Point, summers at the Brown Ledge Camp, and the heyday of Fort Ethan Allen, where the celebrated Buffalo Soldiers briefly resided, Chronicles of Colchester captures the
hearty spirit of this Lake Champlain community.
