JOHNSBURG – A pictorial history book about the Johnsburg and Pistakee Bay area was released this week.
The book is part of the “Images of America” series and tells the story of Johnsburg’s German ancestry and Pistakee Bay’s reputation as a hunting and fishing hub for wealthy businessmen and Chicago politicians. The book includes more than 200 photographs with detailed captions and narratives from descendants of the area’s original settlers.
The six-chapter book, which sells for $19.99, also details the role of the Johnsburg Community Club, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Pistakee Yacht Club in the town’s cultural history.
Local writer Sandra Landen Machaj, a member of the McHenry County Historical Society, is the author of the book. She also wrote “McHenry and McCullom Lake.”
The book was released Monday. It is available for purchase at Borders.com and soon will be available at local retail bookstores and the Johnsburg Public Library.
