La Jolla Historical Society's Carol Olten, Heather Kuhn and Patricia Dahlberg will discuss the new Arcadia Publishing book on La Jolla by Olten and Kuhn at the Third Thursday lecture series this week, sponsored by the Save Our Heritage Organisation.
The discussion will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Old Adobe Chapel, 3950 Conde St., in Old Town. The $35 admission ($25 in advance) includes a copy of the book, the lecture and refreshments. The lecture alone is $15. Information: (619) 29-9327 or sohosandiego.org.
The photos in the 128-page book come from the 10,000-image collection of the La Jolla Historical Society and date from the 1880s when La Jolla was founded.
They include all the famous La Jolla hangouts, including one of the caves, where in 1917 a group called the Cavemen hung out. Members were supposed to sign their membership applications in blood.
Another shot shows children posing in front of Chris' Market for Taffy Apple Day in 1918. Check out the frilly frocks and quaint hats.
