A Hankering for Newport History - 07/31/2005 The Sunday Challenger
Many other landmarks that were, and are, part of the Newport streetscape are included in the book "Newport in Vintage Postcards" (Arcadia Publishing, 2005).
Robert Yoder, his Nadine and their 3-year-old son, Jacob, enjoy living in Newport. Yoder is active in Kentucky's Preservation Community. He has served on the Newport Historic Preservation commission, is a former Chair of Newport's East Row Historic Foundation and currently serves as chair of Preservation Kentucky, a statewide preservation organization.
"Newport in Vintage Postcards" is Yoder's first book, though he has written several articles for trade publications, and has served as the editor for the East Row Historic Foundation's monthly newsletter for five years.
"This book is my gift to the people of Newport," he said. "It's my hope that (the book) provides the reader memories of how Newport was in the past, and offers inspiration toward what our community can be in the future.
"Newport in Vintage Postcards" is available at Barnes and Noble at Newport on the Levee, Kentucky Haus in Newport, and other local bookstores.
