Author will autograph copies of 'Monroe' book By Denise Wilson - 02/18/2009 The Western Star
Monroe resident, historian and author Marcia McCartt will autograph her newly published book titled "Monroe" during a March 8 book signing.
The Monroe Historical Society is hosting the event from 2 to 4 p.m. at its facility at 10 East Elm St. in Monroe.
McCartt's 128-page book, which is part of Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series, is a historical narrative that traces the small town's history from 1850 along with more than 200 black and white photos.
Her passion for history and genealogy combined with an interest in the community encouraged her to write her first book, she said.
In addition to the book signing, the historical society said it will feature an exhibit on Monroe's history with several photos of early Monroe, a display featuring dress of the time, an array of small farm tools honoring the agricultural history of the community and a Paragon Plow manufactured in the community signifying the history of many business developments.
The historical society is just one of many outlets — along with area bookstores, independent and online retailers or through Arcadia Publishing — where the book can be purchased. The book is available for $21.99, with a portion of the proceeds going to the historical society. To contact Arcadia, call (888) 313-2665 or visit www.arcadiapublishing.com
