The history of Blennerhassett Island is shown in pictures, thanks to a new book now for sale.
The just-published paperback includes photographs that have never been published before.
While the book covers the island's early history, much of the material involves the period of time since 1980.
"One of the most interesting parts of the book is the post-1980 period of the park," says island historian Ray Swick. "You see the inner workings of the park, the personnel and its volunteers. And you can get an idea of the family atmosphere we have here. It's all volunteer groups evolving, too."
Swick put together the book along with collaborator Christy Little.
The book's printers, Arcadia Publishing, are distributing it as part of their "Images of America" series.
