Author Sara McGuire has put together a picture book that is a must on the coffee table of anyone who appreciates the town of Vandergrift.
With its streets laid out by Frederick Olmsted, days gone by are captured in numerous photographs along side their present-day counterparts.
See the town up to its ears in flood waters, snow and classic cars.
The retrospective includes amazing period photos of horse-and-buggies on Columbia and Grant avenues and women in long dresses at public outings.
McGuire, a Vandergrift native and recent Duquesne University graduate, secured the vintage photos from local churches, small businesses, residents and the Victorian Vandergrift Museum and Historical Society. McGuire knows her way around town, having been a volunteer for the Vandergrift Improvement Project who coordinated walking tours.
The book serves as a companion to previously published "Capital's Utopia," a collection of narratives exploring the town's early days.
The book was released by Arcadia Publishing. For more information, visit www.arcadiapublishing.com/news_article.html?idĽ2118
