More than 200 of Ohio's historic covered bridges, some of which have survived and many that have not, are once again captured in Dr. Elma Lee Moore's Ohio's Covered Bridges. This is the newest addition to Arcadia Publishing’s Postcard History series.
Classic images of these treasured bridges that have spanned Ohio's rivers, creeks, streams, and gorges are presented in vintage postcards of the past. The GPS location is listed for each existing bridge.
The author hopes that the book will create “awareness about the beauty of these bridges in the public and a sense of need for historic preservation of the remaining bridges.”
Highlights of Ohio’s Covered Bridges:
• These historic covered bridges were built before 1917.
• There are 142 historic covered bridges remaining of the original 4,000 in Ohio. Ohio is second to Pennsylvania with 222 covered bridges.
• The bridges highlighted in the book are organized by county location and the cataloging system established by John Diehl.
• The postcards are from the author’s private collection.
