More Info on This Book: McClellan Air Force Base

"McClellan Air Force Base" by Kyle Byard and Tom Naiman (Arcadia, $19.99, 128 pages): Arcadia Publishing of Mount Pleasant, S.C., is best known for its "Images of America" series. Each title focuses on the homespun histories of towns around the country, told mostly through vintage photographs and text blocks.

In our area, Arcadia's latest title details the history of McClellan, what the authors call "a small city that supported both working and residential communities." The book takes a long, fond look at the former air base, which operated between 1936 and 2001. The vintage photos are fascinating and will bring memories to the many Sacramentans who served there.
