Native Americans called the area Couxsaxrage, "beaver hunting ground." Professor Ebenezer Emmons named it Adirondack, after one of the native tribes. Author Bio: Donald R. Williams has shared his home country, the Adirondacks, for more than fifty years through his writings, television shows, lectures, and storytelling. He has authored numerous books on the area, including two for Arcadia Publishing: The Adirondacks: 1830-1930 and The Adirondacks: 1931-1990. He recently received the Mohawk Valley Heritage Hero award for "Historical Education and Linking Places." His work in Along the Adirondack Trail continues this tradition.
