Rising from a tidal mudflat at the mouth of the Los Angeles River, the Port of Long Beach has grown through the 20th century into the one of the busiest deepwater ports. White researched these images, many of which have never been published before, from a number of sources including his own collection of maritime photographs, the archives of the Long Beach Public Library, and the extensive accumulation of historic photographs and materials maintained by the Port of Long Beach. This book is a companion to his previous book with Arcadia Publishing, The Port of Los Angeles.
