Clovis and a number of his friends in the swamp travel to the nearby prairie for a day of fun and games and decide to spend the night there. During the night, Rene the Rain Frog wakes and goes towards the water. He wakes Clovis and says that a fire came out of the water and chased him. Julie Fontenot Landry, a Louisiana native, is the author, coauthor, or translator of many works for children and adults incorporating the state's history and folklore. She is the daughter of the late Louisiana author Mary Alice Fontenot, with whom she collaborated on numerous projects, including writing the music, lyrics, and piano arrangements for several books in the Clovis Crawfish series. In addition to English, Landry speaks and writes the French of her Acadian ancestors and translates from one to the other, notably in the Clovis Crawfish series. She was awarded the CODOFIL prize for French prose in 1995. Since her retirement from forty-five years as a teacher and school administrator, Landry has continued to write.
