New Books, Publishing Today
You know the drill, every Tuesday, we share new books that are hitting the shelves and while today might be no different, it is a slower week than usual. Which begs the question, how are publication dates even chosen? How is that some weeks there are 30 new titles and some there are 2 (as in today's case)?
Let's talk about it before we get into today's new books.
Publication dates are chosen with several factors in mind:
- Is there a seasonality to the book?
- Does this book have a specific date or date range that it's tied to?
- Is there enough time for the author to go through the editorial process?
And then there's outside factors. For example, most publishers will save their biggest titles and most well-known authors for a mid-October to early November release. This is often referred to as Super Tuesday (not to be confused with the United States presidential primary election day). This date is chosen because it's right before the holidays, which makes for more sales in the way of gift giving.
