I have often explored Arabia Mountain and Panola Mountain, walked and biked the miles-long trails, and visited the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. This fascinating book deepened my appreciation of all these remarkable places.

Filled with historic photographs and compelling stories, Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area explains how the region came to be shaped and preserved. It covers the seizure of Muscogee land; the forced labor of Black people; Lithonia, “the City That Granite Built”; the Flat Rock Archives; the grueling work of granite cutters; and the modern-day residents and advocates who fought to conserve the area.

The book is both beautiful and illuminating. It has enriched every visit I make to the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.
