The Shaker Communities of Kentucky: Pleasant Hill and South Union presents the lives, struggles, and achievements of a remarkable people. The chronicle spans Shaker beginnings in England and relocation to America, the Great Awakening in America followed by the Kentucky Revival, Shaker beginnings in Kentucky, and the establishment of the South Union and Pleasant Hill Shaker villages. The Shaker central ministry sent missionaries to Kentucky from New York in 1805 after hearing about the Kentucky Revival, which culminated with the Cane Ridge Revival of 1801. Their efforts resulted in the establishment of villages in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Pleasant Hill and
South Union were among the most successful and enduring of all the Shaker villages. This volume provides a striking visual portrayal of Shaker life by means of rare vintage images, including beliefs and worship, relationships with other believers and "the world," and their highly regarded workmanship. Gradual decline resulted in the closing of both villages, but restorations have turned both sites into popular destinations.

The story of the Sisters of St. Walburg Monastery began with five Benedictine sisters arriving in Covington in 1859 to teach English to German immigrants. These five sisters were the beginning of a Roman Catholic religious community that, over the course of 150 years, established schools, hospitals, a college, and a nursing home. The sisters follow the ancient Rule of St. Benedict and served graciously, creating and staffing these facilities for decades. Images of America: The Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburg Monastery presents a pictorial history of the community in Covington and Villa Hills, the schools and hospitals where the sisters worked, and the familiar faces of those who were a part of it all. Following the Benedictine tradition of prayer, community, and service, the Sisters of St. Walburg Monastery have contributed to the welfare of the people of northern Kentucky and beyond.

For more than 135 years, the Sisters of Notre Dame have been an integral part of the fabric of life in Northern Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati region. Best known for their dedicated service as Catholic school teachers and administrators, the Sisters of Notre Dame have embraced numerous opportunities to minister to the people of the region and beyond. From operating orphanages, senior care centers, and hospitals to medical research, foreign missions in Uganda, and urban education centers in the inner city, the Sisters of Notre Dame have touched the lives of tens of thousands of people by their example of self-sacrifice and dedication to helping others. Their highly recognizable convent of St. Joseph Heights on the Dixie Highway stands as a visible reminder of the religious heritage offered to all by the Sisters of Notre Dame of the Covington Province.
