Bisecting the entire state from northeast to southwest, U.S. Highway 67 has been and continues to be a major route for traffic through Arkansas. Spanning the time period from 1900 to 1960, this book traces the development of the many interesting river and railroad towns that grew up along the highway. U.S. Highway 67 enters from Missouri and exits at Texarkana, crossing such towns as Corning, Walnut Ridge, Newport, Searcy, Beebe, Jacksonville, Little Rock, Malvern, Arkadelphia, Gurdon, Prescott, Emmet, and Hope. Situated in a lush, spring-fed valley, the town of Silver Springs in Northwest Arkansas was once home to a small community of people who farmed, enjoyed the riches of rural life, and gathered at the local auditorium, gristmill, or tavern. Their world was forever changed in 1900 with the arrival of William Hope ""Coin"" Harvey. A fervent supporter of the ""free silver"" movement in the 1890s, Harvey had become disgruntled with the American financial system. Retreating to the pastoral valley, Harvey purchased 320 acres, renamed the community Monte Ne, and began to build a grand resort. It attracted visitors from across the country with its fertile landscape, large hotels, and private rail line. By the 1920s, Harvey had turned his attention to building a large ""time capsule"" pyramid, of which only the foyer, or amphitheater, was completed.

On a few thousand acres of land across the Arkansas River from the capital city of Little Rock, this dedication is evident. Images of America: Camp Robinson and the Military on the North Shore traces the area's military history from the founding of Fort Logan H. Roots in the late 1800s through the training for World War I and World War II, when as many as 50,000 men and women were stationed at Camp Robinson at any one time. This book pays tribute to the Arkansas National Guard, which is still based at Camp Robinson and has served countless times in times of war and natural disasters. Arkansas's booze scene had a promising start, with America's biggest brewing families, Busch and Lemp, investing in Little Rock just prior to Prohibition. However, by 1915, the state had passed the Newberry Act, banning the manufacturing and selling of alcohol. It was not until sixty-nine years later that the state welcomed its first post-temperance brewery, Arkansas Brewing Company. After a few false starts, brewpubs in Fayetteville, Fort Smith and Little Rock found success. By 2000, the industry had regained momentum. An explosion of breweries around the state has since propelled Arkansas into the modern beer age.

The Great Passion Play in historic Eureka Springs, Arkansas, was first performed on July 15, 1968. Since that day, over seven million visitors from all over the world have witnessed the largest outdoor drama in the United States. The play ambitiously dramatizes the last week of Jesus's life and his ascension. The staging incorporates over 200 cast members, live animals, period dress, and numerous special effects. Surrounding the Great Passion Play are the sacred projects of the Elna M. Smith Foundation, which were the vision of Gerald L. K. Smith and Elna M. Smith. These projects include the seven-story Christ of the Ozarks statue, the Sacred Arts Museum, the New Holy Land, and the Bible Museum. On average, over 100,000 people are drawn to these attractions every year.

History is alive in Fort Smith. Many unique events occurred along historic Garrison Avenue and nearby neighborhoods from 1817 to the present. From the US military influence beginning in 1817, and Judge Isaac C. Parker's "Hell on the Border" jail, to the numerous businesses along the Avenue since the 1800s, this postcard history of Fort Smith connects the past and the present. Furthermore, it shows the history of urban sprawl, local churches, hospitals, and cultural centers throughout Fort Smith.
