As a temp resident of more than a decade (still from away), I was interested in reading more about the development of the Outer Banks, and Twiddy’s book largely fills the bill. The stories of the banking, political and duck hunting club influences on development are well written and thoughtfully organized. The book is a quick read for folks with just a little curiosity, but also paints a picture of a few vital periods of development that will service other historians. While the examples provided are by necessity selective, I was disappointed that no details of the Sanderling development were included. I bought the book hoping to learn more about OBX history, but the resort and its surrounding neighborhoods did not get any play. Not sure why this slice of north Duck was set aside. Will have to dig elsewhere for some history of that stretch of teh Outer Banks.
